Dundee 2 - 3 Dundee United
League (Division One)

This was one of the best games on record in the city series as United edged home 3-2 at Dens Park. United's early pressure finally paid off in 31 minutes when Ally Donaldson dived to push away a throw-in from, but only as far as Kenny Cameron who promptly lobbed the ball into the net from 15 yards. Dundee responded quickly and Jim Cameron had to clear a Wallace effort off the line, but with Dundee buzzing around the Hamish McAlpine's goal, United broke up the park to score again. Andy Rolland broke up the park and sent a great pass to Joe Watson and the winger's cross was knocked home by Alan Gordon.
United welcomed Hibernian back to Tannadice for what would be the clubs' third meeting within a month. With back-to-back six goal defeats to Dundee and Derby County still fresh in the mind, the manager made two changes to the United front line, with Kenny Cameron and youngster Alan Devlin coming in for Alec Reid and Jackie Copland. Kerr opted to stick with the more experienced Don Mackay in goal, having named him in the midweek Texaco Cup team in place of Hamish McAlpine. Kicking off, United elected to play with the wind in their favour.
