Biography

Ron was with Aberdeen Lads Club before he signed for United. He had an immediate positive impact and was an ever present for the rest of that season. Re-signed for 1958-59, injury sidelined him for four months.

At the beginning of season 1959-60, Ron was called up for national service. Manager Jerry Kerr took the unusual step of visiting Ron’s commanding officer who agreed to have the player released to play for United as often as possible. As a result, Ron missed just four matches over the promotion winning season.

Season 1960-61 was Ron’s last with United and he was still travelling regularly to take his place in the side but he left to join Liverpool for a fee of £30,000 in July 1961.
