Magnus was a former Swedish under-21 internationalist defender who had started his career with Orebro SK, making the step up to the first team in 1989. He spent eight years at the Eyravallen stadium, playing alongside his future United teammate Lars Zetterlund for most of that time, competed in the UEFA Cup with the Swedish side in the early 1990s, and finished as Allsvenskan runners-up in 1991 and 1994.
After a spell with Chinese side Dalian Wanda he signed for United in September 1997, becoming manager Tommy McLean's seventh Scandinavian signing. He made his debut against Hearts and was a regular in the side for the next two years. Collecting a runners-up medal against Celtic in the League Cup final in 1997, he is mostly remembered for scoring the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Dundee in the first SPL game of the 1999-00 season.
After appearing in the first five matches of that campaign, Magnus was less frequently under manager Paul Sturrock in his last season at the Club, he returned to Sweden to sign for with Gothenburg based club GAIS in 2000, where he finished his career three years later. He went on to become a director at the club, later returning to his first club Orebro as technical director.

Having weathered Hearts early storm, it was somewhat ironic that we should fall behind to an own goal just before the interval. But the immediate reply through Kjetl Olofssons goal was no less than we deserved. Had it not been for a magnificent save by McKenzie from newcomer Magnus Skoldmark's header three minutes from the end, we would have taken a point. As it was a low- level header from John Robertson on the hour mark decided the issue in the home sides favour.
We gained a place in the quarter finals with this narrow victory over a First Division side which shaded the play territorially, but in terms of chances all the scoring was squeezed into a five minute period either side of the half-time whistle. Neil Murray, making his debut, put us ahead with a controlled volley from 25 yards, but Walker hooked home the equaliser shortly after the re-start. Magnus Skoldmark with his first ever goal for the club sent us through with a well taken header from Craig Easton's cross within three minutes of Ayr's goal.
After no goals and no points from our two home meetings with our near neighbours last season, this was a very welcome way in which to open the new campaign. Over and above that, the manner in which the side brushed off the disappointment of being pegged back to go on and win was highly encouraging, and a quality not often in evidence last term. There were close to 12,000 fans packed in for a unique start to the league campaign with neighbours Dundee, our first visitors. United set up in a 4-4-2 formation with Dodds and Thompson leading the line.
