Former Dundee, Motherwell, Livingston and Scotland defender Declan arrived at United on a two-year contract in the summer of 2024. An immediate mainstay in the defence, injury curtailed an otherwise successful first season, in which he collected an SPFL Championship winners medal, helping United to promotion back to the top tier.

Biography

A youth graduate at Celtic, Declan achieved success with the club's under-19s winning the Scottish Youth Cup in 2010. Having never played for the first team, he debuted professionally while on loan at Stranraer before leaving to join Clyde in 2011.

After one season, he moved on to Dundee where he spent two years. It was while with the Dens Park club that he would become involved in an incident that later saw him imprisoned in late 2015 for more than a year after he had moved to Livingston. After his release, he reclaimed his place in the side and went on to play 135 league games for the West Lothian club.

His form earned him a move to Premiership side Motherwell where he became a mainstay at centre half for two seasons. It was during this time that he earned a total of nine caps for Scotland. After one year spells at both Aberdeen and St Mirren, Declan signed for United on a two-year deal in the summer of 2023.

Forming a partnership with Kevin Holt at centre half, Declan became a mainstay for United during their successful promotion campaign, earning an SPFL Championship winners' medal, despite a recurring groin related injury that curtailed the latter part of his season.

He went on to play as a regular during United's first season back in the Premiership, but did not do enough to secure an extension to his contract and in the summer, he left to join Ross County.

A year later, he joined another former Terror in John Rankin at Airdrie, as the club's new assistant manager.
