Lindsay had spent six years playing in the Australian National Soccer League with Canberra Cosmos and Sydney Olympic before he joined PSV as a youth prospect in 2002. He never played at the Dutch side but spent some time on loan at other clubs, including Kilmarnock, before his release in 2006. He came to United on trial during the 2006-07 pre-season but failed to impress manager Craig Brewster and didn't earn a deal.
