Considering what was at stake, this was a relatively low key encounter in which, although, not functioning on all cylinders, we never looked like losing. Indeed, only a late goal by substitute Murdo MacLeod prevented us from completing the grand slam in the four encounters with the Parkhead side this term.
If Celtic perhaps had the edge on possession in the first period, then they failed to convert that into chances with Billy Thomson gobbling up a series of long high bails into the middle. At the other end we might have had a penalty when Derek Whyte brought down Kevin Gallacher. But we did take the lead seven minutes from half-time. Kevin Gallacher's corner was met by Paul Hegarty, the Celtic defenders failed to clear and Davie Dodds pounced to score from the edge of the six yard box.
The second half produced a similar pattern with Celtic stepping up their efforts but the best chances came at Pat Banner's end and the 'keeper did well to block a shot from Kevin Gallacher and a header from John Clark. Celtic's equaliser came as a bolt from the blue. Owen Archdeacon slung a cross over to the edge of the penalty area and Murdo MacLeod volleyed an unsavable shot to salvage a point for the uninspired home side. There was further disappointment for us just before the end when John Holt was sent off for an off the ball incident with Mo Johnston.
