This will be regarded as a point dropped, but we could have no compIaints at the outcome. A late penalty award should have seen us take both points, which on the balance of play in our four meetings, we most probably deserved. The early signs were good, however, Davie Dodds gave us an early lead as the result of a somewhat fortuitous build-up. The United striker began the move, cutting in from the right, Davie chipped the ball to Paul Sturrock whose head flick found Kevin Gallacher. Unfortunately, or in hindsight, fortunately, the youngster's miss-hit effort landed at the feet of Davie Dodds who hit a low shot into the far corner of the goal. Failure to capitalise on that sound start cost us dearly.
The second half was only three minutes old when Fraser's free-kick was nodded down by Craig Paterson and Ally McCoist popped up to divert the ball past Billy Thomson. Even although Rangers dominated in midfield they created few moments of anxiety for Billy Thomson, McPherson, McCoist and Fraser all shooting wide of the target. At the other end Eamonn Bannon, Kevin Gallacher and Richard Gough all scorned chances before we received what appeared a late reprieve. Ralph Milne's curling cross from the right was fumbled by Nicky Walker and Richard Gough's shot was blocked by Craig Paterson's arm. Eamonn Bannon hit the spot-kick low to Walker's right but unfortunately the Rangers 'keeper guessed tight to deny us a vital point in the championship race.
