Clydebank were the victims of our biggest and most comprehensive victory of the season. Illustration of United's superiority can best be found in the statistic that Clydebank won their first corner in the dying seconds of the match. From the very outset, United's intention was clear and after incessant pressure, Eamonn Bannon was on hand to hammer a volley high into the net after Richard Gough nodded a Paul Sturrock free kick into his path. It took until a couple of minutes from half-time for the arrival of the second goal. This time it was a Maurice Malpas free-kick that set up the chance. Tommy Coyne neatly laid the ball square for Davie Dodds to blast home.

There was no let-up in the second half and Richard Gough brought out one of many fine saves by Jim Gallacher. From the corner Paul Hegarty headed in a third from Kevin Gallacher's cross. A fine move near the end let Ian Redford in and the substitute hit a superb angled drive which beat the defiant Gallacher.
