Match Report

Before the game Tommy McLean asked the players to grind out results if necessary and they certainly took him at his word. Despite totally dominating the ninety minutes, there was only one goal to show for all our efforts and that came courtesy of a complete mix-up in the Motherwell defence.

There seemed little danger until May and Woods got in a tangle as they tried to deal with a long ball upfield. The product of their indecisiveness left Kjell Olofsson with the ball at his feet and an empty net in front of him. All he had to worry about was the acute angle but that didn't prove a problem as he casually stroked in what proved to be the winner.
