Falkirk came to Tannadice with six successive League defeats to dwell on. The loss of an early goal and Jim Dempsey who was sent off, made it look as though set back number seven was a mere formality. Especially when we went two ahead immediately after the interval. That, however, wasn't quite how it turned out. An eager start by us brought action in the Falkirk penalty box right from the kick-off and reward after 12 minutes. From a corner on the right, John Clark sent in a looping header which struck the bar and Iain Ferguson quickly rammed the rebound high into the net from close range. Furious activity in and around Nicky Walker brought no further goals, and with Falkirk reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Dempsey, there was an air of formality as to the outcome.
That was re-enforced a minute after the internal. Dave Narey powered in a 30 yarder. Walker failed to hold it and Kevin Gallacher nipped in to blast home the rebound. Chances continued to be scored and Falkirk against all odds found themselves back in the game when Purdie ran on to a quickly taken McGuire free kick to beat Billy Thomson from just inside the box. Despite one or two nervy moments, we ran out winners, but this was a narrow win which was only made difficult by those missed opportunities earlier in the match.
