We maintained our quite excellent record over the Accies, but another clear-cut victory looked far from certain at the end of the first 45 minutes. Although Accies keeper Dave McKellar pulled off a fine save from Iain Ferguson in the 10th minute, we didn't dominate the match as expected, in fact, Billy Thomson had to look lively on more than one occasion. As the interval approached some fluency returned in our play and Kevin Gallacher shot just over and Eamonn Bannon was foiled by a tremendous McKellar save.
The second half opened with a tremendous John Clark free-kick which McKellar brilliantly tipped round the post. The breakthrough was only temporarily delayed, Ian Redford slung over a corner which Eamonn Bannon nodded on and Iain Ferguson's looping header was deflected on to the bar by Walker and Paul Sturrock steadied himself before firing a volley past the defenders on the line. Although we dominated the game, ex-United 'keeper Dave McKellar wasn't overworked. A cross from the left by Paul Sturrock was intercepted by Eamonn Bannon whose chip to the far post was squeezed home by Iain Ferguson. Dave McKellar somehow managed to tip over another thunderbolt of a free-kick taken by John Clark but John did get on the score-sheet from the resultant corner. The corner from the right fell to Iain Ferguson whose return cross was nodded in at the far post by John Clark to seal a victory in which the goal took a long time to come.
