Rangers and United fought out a goal-less draw, but this match had more than its fair share of goalmouth incident, with a share of the spoils about right. Ally McCoist provided the first serious threat on goal when his close range header in the 12th minute was parried by Billy Thomson and cleared finally by Eamonn Bannon. Played at a frantic pace there was hardly time to draw breath never mind shoot at goal. However two excellent chances came the way of both sides as the interval approached. Firstly, a comer was flicked on by Kevin Gallacher and Iain Ferguson, untypically, shot over with the goal, apparently, at his mercy. Then at the other end Ally McCoist saw his shot strike Billy Thomson and sneak over the bar for a corner.
Ten minutes after the break, another excellent chance came our way. A deceptive cross from Eamonn Bannon which had taken a deflection posed all sorts of problems for Chris Woods and Terry Butcher, both of whom were glad to see the ball run out for a comer. From a second corner Eamonn Bannon was unlucky to see his downward header bounce up to strike the outside of a post. Play for the remainder of the match continued at the same hectic pace and neither side found space nor time to carve out a winner, and neither side could compIain about the share of the spoils come the final whistle.
