The contrast in our performance before and after the interval struck yet again. Hibs, prompted to a large extent by Stuart Beedie, were worthy of their half-time lead even if the goal came in controversial circumstances. A linesman judged Billy Thomson to have infringed the four step rule. Billy Kirkwood tapped the indirect kick to Joe McBride who curled the ball past the Tannadice wall and Billy Thomson. The first half ended with us unlucky not to equalise. Paul Sturrock's cross from the right was met by Gordon McLeod whose diving header grazed the cross-bar.
After surviving a near miss early in the second half when Maurice Malpas cleared a McCluskey lob off the line, we hit back. Iain Ferguson set Eamonn Bannon down the left and his out swinging cross was swept past Alan Rough by Ian Redford. From here on it was a tale of continual united pressure, Ian Redford was thwarted by Alan Rough, Paul Sturrock shot just past as we piled on the pressure but Hibs survived to take a point that their first half display probably merited.
