United’s good run of results was brought to a halt with goals from Aluko and Miller giving Aberdeen a 2-0 victory. To round off a miserable afternoon
United finished the game with nine men with both Barry Robson and Lee Wilkie seeing red.
Craig Levein named the same side that started the midweek CIS Cup victory over Hamilton. Grzegorz Szamotulski retained his place between the posts with Euan McLean, a hero from last weekend against Rangers, listed as a substitute. There were two former United men in the Aberdeen ranks with Lee Mair in the heart of the home defence and Lee Miller starting on the bench.
United had their share of the chances in the opening period and were twice undone by outstanding saves by Langfield from Kalvenes and Wilkie. Jordan Robertson also went close when he held off Mair and sent a left foot shot inches wide. With five minutes of the half left the Dons broke the deadlock when Aluko burst clear and slammed the ball past Szamotulski. Seconds before the break United should have equalised when Robertson was one on one with Langfield but he screwed his effort just past the right hand post.
With an hour on the clock the home side were very unlucky not to double their lead when de Visscher burst into the United area and slammed the ball off the underside of the bar. With United pressing for a leveller their afternoon took a turn for the worse when firstly Robson was given a straight red card for a two footed challenge on Maguire and then towards the final whistle Lee Wilkie was harshly sent off after two bookings. The game was put beyond United in the 90th minute when former United man Miller shot home from 20 yards out.
