Match Report

With Andrew Robertson's move to Hull City nearing completion, the youngster unsurprisingly was left out of the squad for the visit to Easter Road. In his absence, Seán Dillon, Jarek Fojut, Callum Morris and Blair Spittal formed the defensive four. Mario Bilate made a start up front with Stuart Armstrong, Nadir Çiftçi and Ryan Dow supporting. Recent signing and former United man Scott Allan was on the bench for Hibs. Both Ex-Tannadice men, Farid El Alagui and Scott Robertson started.

The first half failed to shake off the 'pre-season friendly' tag, with neither team getting into any sort of rhythm. Hibs started better and former United player, El Alagui, almost made the breakthrough after 10 minutes when he put a header over from 8 yards when it looked easier to score. As the half progressed Cierzniak was becoming increasingly involved and had to look sharp to save a Stanton header on 38 minutes. Ciftci was looking lively for United and on the stroke of half time, struck a long range shot that sailed over the bar.

After the interval, with United shooting towards their 692 fans, there looked to be added impetuous about the side. However, they looked to be facing a major set back 10 minutes in when El Alagui scored, only to see the flag raised for off-side. A raft of substitutions for United kicked them up another gear and with just over twenty minutes remaining they took the lead. Substitute Chris Erskine picked up the ball at the edge of the area and cut inside to create sufficient space to fire the a shot into the right hand corner of the net. Connolly and Graham had further efforts in the remaining minutes but the scoreline did not change.
