With the first team set to play Spurs the day after, a United XI side involving a number of reserve side regulars and younger first team players visited Annfield Park to meet Stirling Albion for a friendly match. Against a full strength Albion outfit United should have come out of the game with a better result than they did. Countless chances were missed and a couple of elementary defensive errors caused the goals, as Alex Smith's men struck either side of the interval.
The first goal arrived via Lloyd Irvine after 25 minutes when the forward made ground before flicking the ball past two defenders and into the net. United weren't without great opportunities to score in the first half though, as Colin Campbell tested Gordon Arthur from close range forcing the Stirling stopper to get down low and make a save.
Despite making some positive substitutions with a view to piling pressure on the Stirling back line, United were punished again as the homesters' centre forward Andy Kennedy slipped a ball under Derek Neilson to make it 2-0 after 52 minutes.
