Match Report

United's mix of first team squad and youth team players edged out the SFL Third Division side in a sodden pre-season warm-up outing with rain teaming down relentlessly throughout the 90 minutes. Early on it was United who asked the questions with a good Kris Irvine cross cleared by lan Dobbins for the Tangerines' first comer, held by Darren Hill in a goalmouth scramble. United made the breakthrough after 10 minutes, Jennison Myrie-Wittiams finding trialist Damien Casalinuovo on the edge of the box whose neat turn and shot beat Hill cleanly. United then suffered a blow with the loss of David Robertson through injury with less than a quarter of an hour gone. Jamie Redman clipped the woodwork with a good header for Arbroath and John McGlashan's side maintained the attacking momentum with a great effort from Keith Gibson testing visiting keeper Bryn Hindley. But he could do nothing against Steve Hislop just before the half-hour, when ran between the United rearguard and curled a shot beyond the keeper Arbroath had the first effort after the break, McCulloch driving a shot past before Ryan McCord struck a long-range drive over the top for United. Victory was sealed in the closing stages when Sean Dillon's low cross into the box was neatly turned in by Ryan Dow.
