Match Report

After several close door matches, United made their first public appearance in the andent city of Athens against A.E.K.

The match was the perfect preparation for Europe and was played in stifling heat and produced a good performance and even better result. Played in front of a capacity 28,000 crowd, both sides got off to a sluggish start with no real scoring chances.

We went ahead in the 53rd minute when AEK striker Giorgos Savidis put through his own goal. Midfielder lan Redford made it 2-0 in the 78th minute, scoring with a header.

However, AEK pulled one back eight minutes from time with a penalty. Dave Bowman fouled Dimitris Pittas in the box and the same player converted the spot kick.

Overall it was a good trip with excellent training facilities, even if the pitch on which we played the actual game wasn't up to the same standard, being soft enough but of variable bounce.
