A disappointing afternoon for United as the depleted Tannadice eleven went down to a soft goal to the English First Division side. A corner midway through the second half brought the visitors' goal. Hamish McAlpine, making his first team return failed to hold a corner. Gordon McLeod blocked Sealey's follow up header but Leicester's top scorer, Alan Smith, knocked in the rebound, in addition to the result, we suffered a further set back, losing Paul Hegarty with a head wound which required three stitches.
After a first half of limited excitement United's best effort came a minute before the interval. Andrews just managing to turn a Beedie shot past the post. Leicester might have gone ahead before they did when former 'Well midfielder Gary McAllister struck the post Stuart Beedie was again denied by Andrews in the closing stages, having also foiled Tommy Coyne earlier on.
