Match report

After a slightly jittery start — brought about by a spirited Forfar opening — United took the lead thanks to a Jimmy Briggs penalty conversion. After half-an-hour the Tannadice men went two up. Dennis Gillespie slipped the ball through for Finn Døssing to hammer it past Henderson from 10 yards. Now well on top. United got a third when Mogens Berg gave Tommy Neilson a perfect return pass and the inside man went on to beat Sandy Henderson from close in.
