A very young United eleven took the field against Raith's fuil First Division side and in the early stages controlled the game and might well have scored on several occasions. John Clark crashed a free kick just over from 30 yards; Duncan Ferguson had a shot saved, John O'Neil saw his shot whiz past the far post; Paddy Connolly also brought out a save from Bonner and all those opportunities fell to us in the first twelve minutes of the game.
Gradually, however, Raith came into contention and from a MacDonald cross Dennis headed Raith into the lead after 64 minutes. We ought to have equalised five minutes later but John Clark shot over after Joe McLeod's shot rebounded to him.
As it transpired we fell further behind when Logan capitalised on a bad pass back and carried on to eventually shoot low past Stuart Garden. In the dying minute we got a consolation goal when a Duncan Ferguson shot took a deflection to beat Lowrie at his near post.
