Match Report

Following the successful outing at Montrose this was something of a set back against a Kirkcaldy side. Full of running and looking to catch us on the break. Those tactics proved a match winning formula because despite the almost total dominance we exerted temporally. Raith proved themselves very adept on the break to establish a three goal lead. The first came in 17 minutes when Keith Wright latched on to a miscued back pass to beat Scott Thomson from just inside the box. Six minutes later the Raith centre got his second when he nodded in a free-kick.

Meanwhile our continual pressure produced chances but not goals and we almost fell further behind when Andy Harrow scored a third in 54 minutes, but this was disallowed. We finally pierced the resolute Raith defence with 19 minutes left when Dave Beaumont strongly headed down a Paul Sturrock corner and Tommy Coyne hammered the ball in from close range. Hamish McAlpine, making his debut for Raith, was another reason we failed to take anything from this match, as the former Tannadice 'keeper typically produced a string of fine saves.
