United sit atop the Second Division, having secured victory over St Bernard's in what is already the clubs' second meeting of the season. The win came late, however, with two goals in the last five minutes of what was a scrappy game. Playing and tackling hard, St Bernard's were assisted by the wind during the first half and found themselves in the lead just after twenty minutes when Andy Ramage, formerly of Dundee, slipped a ball to Walker who duly crossed for the head of Eadie to nod across the face of goal. Waiting, gleefully, was an unnamed "Junior" who knocked the ball into the net. It took a Geordie Henderson moment of magic to get United back into the game just before the break, as he burst past Drummond before crossing to Harry Michie for a headed equaliser.
Saints should have taken the lead 25 minutes into the second half when Robertson and Eadie combined, but Harry McGregor saved their tame efforts to keep the scores level. United were awarded a penalty soon after, much to the consternation of the St Bernard's lads, and after several minutes of debate and replacing of the ball, Duncan Hutchison took the kick. Sadly for "Hutch", he sent it wide, drawing rather unsportsmanlike "congratulations" from the away team. As tempers worsened, both sides chased a winner, but it was to be United who broke the deadlock with five minutes to go. Picking up a pass, Geordie Henderson squared to Johnny Hart who duly scored and just a minute later, Hart repeated his feat, getting on the end of a John Bain free kick.
