Match Report

Tannadice's first match for a month brought United two points in a game which Hibs were dominated throughout. What evidence of rustiness that existed in the Tannadice ranks disappeared as the game progressed and there was rarely any doubts about the final outcome.

Several chances were passed up before Billy Kirkwood gave us the lead in the 38th minute. A cross by Eamonn Bannon found Paul Sturrock. Weight of numbers barred his path to goal and the ball broke to Billy Kirkwood who made no mistake from close range. Our second goal came in controversial circumstances. Rough punched out a Bannon cross, the ball only travelled as far as Dave Beaumont whose first time volley raged high into the net. Hibs appealed in vain that Ralph Milne had been in an offside position, but the referee allowed the goal to stand.
