The scoring started in ten minutes when Charlie McGillivray whipped a 20 yarder to the corner and a little later was continued by Archie Coats. Good goal, this. The centre first-timed a Wattie pass. His contact was a little faulty, but his placing was perfect. Despite timeous tackling from United, Dundee returned to the attack soon after. Cook and Coats combined as the little winger came along the line, touched it back to the centre who did the rest. Later, Adam was brought down in a scrimmage, and McGillivray netted from the spot.
An unhappy moment for Lynch brought consolation to United fifteen minutes from the restart. A simple free kick was nicely placed by Andrew Meikleham. The 'keeper misjudged its flight and dropped the ball on the wrong side of the line. Charlie McGillivray quickly restored the lead. Wattie, Coats, and the inside-left came through. Hard-hitting McGillivray was left on his own, and a sharp effort gave Smith no chance. The homester's sixth and last was unfortunate. It followed a Cook frolic. The antics of the little winger relieved the later stages of the game, and on this occasion he crossed sharply from near distance. A luckless Jimmy Robertson turned the ball beyond his own 'keeper.
