Match Report

The Toluca side included a number of the Mexican World Cup squad. Many of whom United faced a few days earlier in their match with a Mexico XI.

United squandered a wonderful opportunity to take the lead in this game when after a quarter of an hour they were awarded a penalty kick. Jim Cameron stepped up tot take the kick but the Mexican 'keeper, Ignacio Calderon, appeared to move before the ball was kicked and made a diving save. There were no goals in the first half and it ended 0-0.

As the second half started, the United players were starting to look lethargic, probably showing signs of strain from the terrific heat. The fact the game kicked off at midday did not help the Scots. The Mexican's took control of the game and took the lead when Javier Fragoso struck. The same player, Javier Fragoso went on to double the Toluca lead shortly afterwards. 2-0 was how the score remained. This was the Mexican players' last warm up match before facing Soviet Union in the Aztec Stadium on May 31st.
