Dundee United kicked the pre-season off against German side SV Wacker Burghausen. Ian McCall started with seven new signings.
With half an hour gone Jim Paterson set up Jim McIntyre however, his chip went wide. Almost immediately after this, the Germans broke up-field and won a penalty. Mokhtari fired in a shot that Tony Bullock could only parry and the ball spun loose to Reisinger. Bullock challenged the striker and he went down for what was a very soft penalty. Orum made no mistake to give the home side the lead. Shortly afterwards Wacker Burghausen could have been two ahead but Fruhbeis missed a good scoring opportunity from only six yards.
United made several changes in the second half including the introduction of new signing Collin Samuel. Early in the half Mokhtari again caused United problems would have scored but for a late goal line clearance by Archibald. United were denied a penalty ten minutes after the restart when Samuel appeared to be brought down in the box but the referee waved the claims away.
After using all of the substitutes, United were reduced to ten men as Barry Robson limped off with a foot injury and then Mark Wilson required treatment following a heavy challenge. Despite being reduced to ten men, United finished strongly and put the home side under pressure. With two minutes left a loose ball came to Mark Kerr 25 yards out and he unleashed a great shot that brought United level.
