On a lumpy pitch, the United team took to the field with recent signing Stillie in goal, whilst McCracken, Ritchie and Archibald lined up along the back. Robson was in his usual left midfield position flanked by Brebner and Kerr with Crawford playing slightly further forward supporting the front two of McIntyre and Miller.
In a good competitive and brisk first half, United were well on top and went in at half time two goals to the good. The first goal came in the 30th minute with Robson crashing home a 20-yard free kick after Crawford had been fouled. In the 33rd minute McIntyre despatched the ball home after being put through by a clever ball from Brebner.
United kicked off the second half with the same eleven and within ten minutes Bamber Bridge were back into the game. A mistake by United saw the number 9 thump home a 20-yard drive.
In the 65th minute it was 2-2 as more sloppy defending allowed the Bamber Bridge number 8 slide home from 6 yards.
As the changes were introduced, United’s midfield was made up of the youngsters Holmes, Robertson and Cameron.
In the 71st minute, Miller’s first goal in tangerine arrived. Yet another free kick from 20 yards was drilled home by Miller to make it 3-2.
A few minutes from time, youngster Robertson slotted home United’s 4th goal to make the score line more respectful.
