Match Report

United took the lead through Scott Robertson after only four minutes and had a number of opportunities to add to the score, but had to settle for only more – a well taken goal in the second half from David Goodwillie.

United always looked the more likely to score in a fast moving first half, with Goodwillie and Swanson in particular causing problems for the Pars defence. Although Dunfermline looked a shade sharper due to their longer pre season so far, they failed to test Stevie Banks to any great extent.

Youth keeper Conor Grant made his first team debut in the second half and did well to prevent the Pars equalising on two occasions as a little tiredness crept into United’s play.

Jeno Myrie Wiliams was replaced by Craig Conway and then Scott Robertson, playing his first game for months , and Garry Kenneth, just recovering from injury, made way for David Robertson and Mihael Kovacevic.

This gave fresh impetus to United and the Pars found it difficult to cope with a period of sustained attacking late in the game. It was no surprise when David Goodwillie capped a fine move with a well taken goal to secure a deserved victory.
