If the first game was somewhat disappointing, the same criticism cannot be levelled at the second attempt to resolve our Cup differences with Aberdeen. The opening period took up where the Saturday's meeting left off - in deadlock. The first action game when Billy Thomson pushed a Charlie Nicholas shot past the post. In the 40th minute Paul Hegarty was sent off and when we went behind 45 seconds into the second things looked decidedly bleak. Charlie Nicholas jinxed down the left and cut inside to hammer in a shot past Billy Thomson from an acute angle.
Gradually our ten men made greater inroads towards Jim Leighton and were rewarded with the equaliser in 68 minutes. Gary McGinnis gave a reverse pass to Mixu Paatelainen, who quickly controlled the ball before firing in a low grounder which beat Jim Leighton. Billy Thomson did make a good save from Charlie Nicholas but as the tie slipped towards extra time, we looked more likely to end the deadlock. In the additional period, Davie Dodds was denied by Billy Thompson as the game petered out leading to another replay.
