Match report
Conditions were deplorable at Somerset Park as United took on Ayr United, after their fruitless mid-week exertions which had ended in a no scoring draw against Turkish side Borsapor in the Cup Winners' Cup. This was the third meeting with the Somerset side, having met them in the League with the honours in United's favour with a win and a draw so far. United maintained that unbeaten run thanks to a Tommy Traynor goal. George McLean was Ayr's scorer.
