Match report
This was proving a tight section primarily due to the somewhat unexpected result in the other group four match at Somerset Park, where Ayr toppled Celtic 3-2. United, however, failed to take complete advantage of that Parkhead slip up as they fought out a goal-less draw on a very wet and treacherously skiddy Fir Park surface. Even the loss of a point didn't stop United taking over leadership of the section with the forthcoming Saturday visit to Parkhead, obviously vital.
