But spurred on by a good home support East Fife struggled back into contention and in fact twice hit the woodwork.
East Fife continued to press in the second half and their persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Paul Hegarty's brother Kevin Hegarty levelled things. But just when it appeared certain that the League Cup points would be shared Jim McLean's men broke away for full-back Andy Rolland to emerge as the Tannadice hero with a winner in the dying seconds of the game.
