Match Report

A quite remarkable holiday fixture this turned out to be when you look at the final scoreline and take into account the fact that our Perth neighbours appeared well on their way to a point with 35 minutes left on the clock! Suddenly, Willie Ormond's side were hit with an unexpected torrent of goals which rang up Jim McLean's men's best win of the season. Jim Pearson had given Saints an interval lead and in truth it was well deserved.

The equaliser came in the 65th minute when Archie Knox took a Kenny Cameron pass and hit a cracker past Donaldson from 25 yards. Three minutes later and United were gifted the lead, when Alex Rennie swung a boot at a Cameron cross from the left, and the ball dipped over Donaldson's head and into the far corner of the net. United's third goal came in 75 minutes, with the visiting defence all at sea, Cameron's pass found Stuart Markland unmarked only a few yards from goal. The Saints protested vigorously but the goal was given. Six minutes from time, and having been involved in all of United's goals, Kenny Cameron slammed home a cross from Fleming from close range. Still United weren't finished, and with two minutes left, keeper Donaldson brought down Knox in the box and Pat Gardner scored number five from the spot to complete the home blitz.
