League (Division One)
Kenny Cameron (32)
Sandy White for Andy Rolland
Jim McRoberts (Wishaw) (Referee)
Going into the final League game of the season, United could do no more than a mid-table finish, however Dunfermline still had a chance of escaping second bottom and relegation. Archie Knox in for Pat Gardner was the only change to the starting eleven.
Dunfermline had the early chances, with both Leishman and Fraser heading over in the opening 10 minutes, before Andy Rolland, playing his 200th competitive match for the club, cleared a Mitchell header off the line in 18 minutes. However, United took the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute when Knox sent over a cross that was headed goalwards by Kenny Cameron, and although Arrol touched the ball onto the post, the ball trickled over the line for the only goal of the game.
The result meant that Dunfermline dropped to the bottom of the table and were relegated to Division Two after 14 years in the top League. United finished in 9th spot, their lowest position in four seasons.
