Match Report
Turning on one of their best performances for months. United fairly put the screws on the League Cup holders. Only luck allied to some staunch defending, not to mention the brilliance of Alan Rough kept United at bay. That was until the the hour mark when United finally, and deservedly, took the lead.
Paddy Gardner's corner was flicked on by Archie Knox and from virtually right on the line Sandy White rammed the ball home. Thistle battled back and Donald Mackay had to turn a Coulston snapshot round the post, but anything other than a Tannadice victory would have been a travesty.
