With both regular 'keepers out injured, Clyde were forced to field 19 year old Brian Wallace as their last line of defence. There was a poor crowd in attendance for this one, creating a very eerie atmosphere at Shawfield.
Clyde were first on the attack in this one and McKay had to be sharp to rush out and block from staite. Younf Wallace in the Clyde goal got his first taste of action early in the half when Wilson ran clear and tried to score low to the 'keepers corner. Wallace dived to save with one hand. Davie Wilson was not to be denied though and after he sprung the offside trap on 13 minutes, he was composed enough to rifle into the corner. The game swung from goalmouth to goalmouth as both sides continued to attack. Then as the game neared half time, Clyde struck back. Graham McFarlane rose to meet a HAstings free-kick and crash headed the ball home.
The second half was much the same as the first with wave after wave of attacking play from both sides. McKay and Wallace were both strong in goal and prevented the forwards from scoring on numerous occasions. With 15 minutes remaining United struck the crucial blow. This time it was Alan Gordon who created and finished the chance to claim full points.
