Match Report

This Hogmanay outing produced not only our fifth straight League win but our fourth consecutive win at Love Street. For most of the first half Saints were penned back with Kevin Gallacher and Maurice Malpas coming close to scoring, though Saints with McWalter prominent threatened on occasions.

The goal which earned the points came in the 34th minute when Billy McKinlay's chip out to the left found Mixu Paatelainen. His cross to the near post was picked up by Hamish French whose shot hit the far post, but Kevin Gallacher was on hand to knock the rebound high into the net. Before the interval both Mixu Paatelainen and Kevin Gallacher might have extended that lead.

The second half started with sustained pressure by Saints. Billy Thomson made three great saves within the first five minutes, but Fridge had to react quickly to block a shot by Mixu Paatelainen. We ended the match in command again and Fridge turned away a Hamish French effort and two minutes from the end only just managed to finger-tip a Mixu Paatelainen header round the post
