Match Report

From Bucherest the action switched to Pittodrie, a ground where we always do well and once again we picked up a point and after equalising may well have won the match.

In the early stages Charlie Nicholas had a coupie of shots, but both were wide of the target. Sandwiched between those efforts, Mixu Paatelainen and Raphael Meade sent in headers, but neither found the targets. In the last quarter of an hour Aberdeen made more of the running and after Billy Thomson had made a fine save from a Grant volley, he was beaten by a Paul Mason header from a Connor cross four minutes from the interval.

A Billy McKinlay shot was deflected and almost beat Snelders, but the Dutchman pushed the ball over. There were generally fewer scoring chances for either side after the interval, but we got back on level terms in the 70th minute. Miodrag Krivokapic pushed the ball out to substitute Dave Beaumont and his cross was steered into the far corner by Allan Preston, scoring his first Premier goal. Five minute from the end Snelders saved an Allan Preston shot as we ended the match on a high note.
