For the third time this season stalemate resulted from our clash with Aberdeen. If Aberdeen could claim the greater share of possession, they could have no complaints at the result, because what few chances were created were equally divided. We were decidedly unlucky not to go ahead as early as the sixth minute. Dave Narey pumped a free-kick high into the box, John Clark got a touch and as the ball landed he swivelled and crashed a shot against the inside of the post. Although Aberdeen had the best of the half in terms of possession, only a long range effort by Peter Nicholas gave Billy Thomson any real anxiety, but he grabbed the ball at the second attempt.
The pattern remained similar in the second half though we came into the game more. Only a Kevin Gallacher left foot shot from the edge of the box really tested Leighton. Meanwhile Aberdeen's best efforts came at the beginning and end of the second period. Two minutes after the restart Billy Thomson had to palm an acutely angled drive by Paul Wright round the post, and the last minute the same player hit the outside of the post, and that was the nearest that either side came to scoring.
