Our record at Ibrox, which isn't as bad as most people think, should have been improved by even more than the point we gained here. Facing a Rangers' team devoid of Butcher, Roberts and Souness, we took a stranglehold of the game in the first half. There was an early breakthrough. Eamonn Bannon deftly chipped the ball over the Ibrox defence, and Dave Beaumont ran through to take on Woods. His first effort was parried by the English internationalist, but Dave had an easy task to prod the loose ball into the empty net after 12 minutes. Ian Redford put Dave Bowman clear, but Dave shot straight at Woods. The only moment of concern to the Tannadice defence in the first half came in the 38th minute, but Dave Narey was on the spot to clear an Ally McCoist shot off the line.
It was a different story in the second half. Rangers with Durrant on for Phillips, applied intense pressure. Durrant headed over; Billy Thomson saved brilliantly from Davie Cooper and then Falco turned sharply, but shot wide. It wasn't all Rangers though. Ian Redford split their defence to find Eamonn Bannon, whose cross was headed only narrowly past by Hamish French. With 21 minutes left Rangers were awarded a penalty. Ally McCoist was brought down by Billy Thomson, and got up to beat Billy from the spot. Two minutes later McCoist struck the far post, but the ball rebounded to the safety of Billy Thomsons'a arms. A few minutes later Billy Thomson pushed a McCoist shot on to the post, but at the other Ian Redford was unlucky to see his shot sail just over the bar. The closing stages saw us regain our grip on the game, but no one could complain at the share of the spoils.
