The first League derby for two and a half years brought Dundee their second successive Tannadice victory thanks to a late, but hardly deserved, penalty kick. Five men strung across the back made it clear that Dundee had designs only on taking a point, but were to fortuitously leave with two. Whilst United hemmed the visitors back in their own half for long spells, finding a chink in Dundee's defence proved more difficult. The closest we came to scoring in the whole game came six minutes from the interval when Alex Cleland blasted in a 25 yarder which whistled just past the post.

Dundee's first recordable goal attempt didn't materialise until twelve minutes from time when Bain shot narrowly over. Yet two minutes later, Dundee were awarded a penalty when Den Bieman's run took him past John dark and Alan Main up-ended the Dutchman. Alan couldn't repeat his spot kick save of the previous week as Billy Dodds sent him the wrong way to snatch an unexpected victory. Whilst we undoubtedly deserved at least a draw after so much possession in truth, we rarely looked like scoring in what was one of our most disappointing displays of the season.
