Heavy rain fell before the match, but it didn't dampen the spirits of United fans as the Tangerines recorded another Dens Park triumph.
An evenly balanced first half ended goalless. The game then burst to life with two goals within a minute. Bad marking enabled Alan Gordon to put United ahead, but within a minute Dundee had equalised through Gordon Wallace who was making his Dark Blue debut.
It was end to end stuff for the rest of the match which was decided by a penalty five minutes from time. Stewart brought Alex Reid down right on the fringe of the area and Dennis Gillespie made no mistake from the spot. With seconds left Swan and Rolland square up and Swan gets booked.
