Match Report

We took our total to seven points out of eight against St. Mirren who currently prop up the Premier Division table and who were under the control of acting boss, Gordon Smith, following Tony Fitzpatrick's resignation at the beginning of the week. For the trip to Love Street, manager Jim McLean was forced to make one change with Duncan Ferguson ruled out because of a groin strain. Darren Jackson replaced the young striker. Inevitably, a team without a manager is a difficult proposition and Saints in the first half had plenty of the play without ever really threatening to score. Our response during the opening period came from defender John Clark. In the 22nd minute he sent in a 30 yarder straight at Money and then he hit a free-kick which Money couldn't hold and allowed the ball to squirm over the line for a corner.

Torfarson forced a save from Alan Main immediately after the re-start and Shaw threatened even greater danger with a surging run into the box, but Alan Main made a fine blocking save. The attacking theme continued when Money conceded a corner from a John Clark flick. The vital breakthrough came 18 minutes into that second period when Miodrag Krivokapic's clearance upfield was nodded on by Hamish French into the path of Darren Jackson who ran on to tuck the ball into the far corner of the goal. That was sufficient for us to claim both points and record our third consecutive victory by the only goal of the game. We could easily have scored again nine minutes later when Hamish French got his head to a Dave Bowman cross, but he didn't quite connect properly and the ball ran past the far post to safety.
