Manager, Jim McLean was able to field an unchanged side for the third consecutive match and we started with all the confidence of a side which had won its last three games. Within a minute Darren Jackson brought out a tremendous save from Rhodes, though had it gone in it probably wouldn't have counted, because a linesman had his flag up. Less than a minute later Jim McInally volleyed just over. We played some great stuff in those early stages and one particularly outstanding series of passes culminated with Darren Jackson firing just over from the edge of the box. Towards the middle of the first half, Dunfermline found their feet, but all they could muster was a Robertson header from a Sinclair corner which was straight at Guido Van De Kamp. Hamish French, playing against his old team-mates then made a typical surge down the right before hammering in a cross which John Clark hooked clear. After our early domination the home side had come right back into the scheme of things, but in the ten minutes leading up to the interval we regained control and broke the deadlock in the 38th minute. It certainly was a case of the finish being better than the build-up. Freddy Van Der Hoorn found himself on the edge of the box, he dwelt on the ball before hooking his shot on goal. The ball was clearly going well past the post until Darren Jackson stole in at the far post to divert the ball past Rhodes from a narrow angle. Three minutes later Dave Bowman shot straight at Rhodes from 12 yards out.
However, Dave was to improve upon that effort ten minutes into the second half, albeit with the help of a Pars defender. Duncan Ferguson broke quickly down the left and fired the ball across goal to Ray McKinnon on the right and he cut the ball back to Dave Bowman whose shot went past Rhodes via Sharp. Dunfermline may have been two down, but they proved they weren't out of things when they quickly pulled a goal back. Leitch played the ball out to Derek McWilliams who shot into the far corner. But we soon hit back with Darren Jackson who looked very sharp all evening almost scoring a third when he got on the end of a long Narey free-kick but shot over; Rhodes then saved a 20 yarder from Barren after Duncan Ferguson had also gone close. Seven minutes from time a Shannon up and under caused anxiety in the box, and that was the catalyst to a mini siege around Guide Van De Kamp, but order was quickly restored and we ran out deserved if narrow winners to record our fourth consecutive victory and bring to an end Dunfermline's run of three consecutive wins at East End.
