Match report
Vale of Leven were almost walking away with two points instead of one from Tannadice. Despite the fact Hibs' defence had held the forwards pretty well during the first half and also for a big portion of the second, the same forwards latterly developed an attack and keenness that nearly swept Welsh and Miller off their feet. Despite the fact Hibs' defence had held the forwards pretty well during the first half and also for a big portion of the second, the same forwards latterly developed an attack and keenness that nearly swept Welsh and Miller off their feet. Up til this period Hibs had led by one goal to nothing, but an error by Welsh in the penalty area was destined to come under the notice of the referee, and Browning scored from the penalty kick. This was the prelude to some clever footwork on the part of the Vale forwards, and only the smartness of Monteith in goal, aided by some powerful kicking by Welsh, kept the HIbs from being in the leeway.
Taken all over there was more combination shown by the visitors. Their wings combined effectively, while the half backs were of the worrying type. Long, the goalkeeper, practically saved the Vale in the first half. With hands and feet he was equally smart, and the manner in which he executed a save of shot from Marshall which was going into the far corner of the net was a treat to see.
Hibs were well served by Monteith and Welsh in defence, while in the mid-line Loney, Robertson and Fyfe got through a powerful amount of work. Swan was the best forward, Yule was off his game.
